Areas of Practice

After initially practising in London, Sarah J Booth returned home to the North joining Deans Court Chambers in 2005.

A criminal practitioner, Sarah has extensive experience as a junior and led-junior in offences of violence, up to and including manslaughter and murder; serious sexual offences particularly child sex offences, historic rape and gang rape; all aspects of financial crime, with significant experience of money laundering and fraud; people trafficking; drug importation, production and supply; firearms and serious crime in general.
                                          
She has a significant practice both defending and as a category 3 prosecutor and is on the rape panel.

Sarah argues complex road traffic cases throughout the North West. Her regulatory Crime practice includes prison law and defending in the General Medical Council.
 
Sarah regularly lectures in chambers to Solicitors’ firms, prosecuting authorities and interested professional bodies.

Significant Recent Cases


R v Andrew Forest ANDERSON, Andrew FERGUSON and Yaya KABIR -  prosecution of gang members involved in the supply of heroin and crack cocaine following a police undercover operation codenamed Operation Biscuit  and, the additional prosecution of ANDERSON for large scale supply of Class A  drugs resulting in a sentence of 15 years imprisonment.

R v Anne Philomena BAINES
– A 68 year old lady originally charged with the attempted murder of her husband, secured a suspended sentence of imprisonment due to the wholly exceptional circumstances of the case.

R v Wayne MAYCOCK - "Baby -shaking" of his 6 week old son causing catastrophic injuries.


R v BENNETT and others - Football violence between Bolton Wanderers / Manchester United. 10 handed trial involving offences of section 18 and violent disorder. One of the victims sustained devastating injuries.


R v Daniella KELLY- Successful appeal to the Court of Appeal following a plea to a serious robbery.


R v Davika BYRO and Wendy SEWELL - Central Criminal Court. Multiple counts of administering noxious substances and unlawful imprisonment. The victims were patients in a nursing home owned and operated by the defendants.
