Practice

Miss Cheetham's practice mainly involves complex care proceedings and associated matters. Julia has particular experience in cases where one parent has killed the other and where the parents have been involved in the killing of another adult. She has represented children, parents and local authorities in such cases and regularly appears against Queen’s Counsel.

Miss Cheetham also regularly appears in cases which involve complex medical evidence relating to the death or serious injury of children including sexual abuse. She has appeared in the High Court in cases involving serious medical treatment issues and in the Court of Protection in best interests proceedings.

Miss Cheetham has an interest in disability issues and Human Rights, in particular those relating to Deaf parents and has wide ranging experience in representing parents with significant learning difficulties through the Official Solicitor.

Miss Cheetham regularly gives seminars to professionals working within the field and has been involved in expert witness training. She sits as a Recorder in Public and Private Law Family and Civil cases and is a committee member of the Manchester FLBA.
