Deans Court Chambers are becoming increasingly experienced in providing legal representation with an international dimension. This growth of international work is occuring in all areas of practice, with members both advising and acting for parties in multi-jurisdictional cases and regularly travelling abroad to represent clients. A member of Chambers is on the list of defence counsel for the special tribunal of the Lebanon.
Chambers is particularly committed to providing legal services in the British Overseas Territories. Members of Chambers have advised in respect of commercial disputes between parties here in the UK and the territorial government. They have also acted in personal injury matters relating to incidents which have occurred in overseas territories.
In crime particularly Chambers have built a wealth of experience in cases in the overseas territories. In the Falkland Islands members of Chambers have acted as locum Crown Counsel and in particular have prosecuted and defended serious cases before the Falkland Island Supreme Court. On St Helena, members of Chambers have similarly acted as locum Crown Counsel and have also been instructed to prosecute serious cases before the Supreme Court of St Helena.
Prosecuting and defending in serious cases in the overseas territories presents particular difficulties. An appreciation of not only the territory’s legislation but also the unique circumstances which exist within the territory is vital to providing the very best representation for either the Prosecution or Defence in these cases.
