Deans Court Instructed in Samuel Linton Inquest
Daniel Paul recently represented the family of Samuel Linton at the inquest into his death before Stockport Coroner's Court. Samuel died after suffering an asthma attack at school and being left without assistance for several hours before the school contacted his mother. Samuel was only taken to hospital after his mother arrived at the school to collect him. He died two hours later.
The jury returned a verdict of natural causes "significantly contributed to by neglect" both individual and systemic. The jury identified failings which contributed to Samuel Linton's death by both a school teacher and support staff who dealt with Samuel Linton on the day of his death. Causative system failings relating to the school were also identified by the jury. The Coroner Mr Pollard indicated his intention to issue rule 43 reports to various agencies and individuals in respect of failings identified and lessons to be learned from the 11 year olds death. Sophie Cartwright represented the Local Authority.
