Areas of Practice


General Crime

Ciaran’s general criminal work includes offences of importation, supply and possession of drugs; assaults, arson, kidnapping, threats to kill, people trafficking; robbery, burglary, theft and fraud offences (including benefit fraud); public order offences; sexual offences, including sexual offences prevention orders (SOPOs); perverting the course of public justice.  

Ciaran is on the Greater Manchester CPS approved list of Rape and Serious Sex Crime Prosecutors

International Work

Ciaran was instructed by the Attorney Generals Chambers in the Falkland Islands to prosecute a historical sex abuse case in the Supreme Court. This resulted in the first recorded conviction by a jury in the Islands history and the longest sentence ever handed out on the Islands.
Since these first instructions he has returned to the islands to prosecute further sexual allegations, again to conviction, fraud and a number of appeals by way of case stated to the Supreme Court.
Instructions from other British Overseas Territories and other overseas common law jurisdictions are welcome.  

Licensing

Ciaran has undertaken work on behalf of breweries and local authorities in relation to the granting, amending, reviewing and revocation of licences under Licensing Act 2003.

Regulatory

Ciaran is on the approved GMC prosecutor list. He has been invited to and given lectures on the Fitness to Practice Rules and has contributed to the consultation regarding the updating of those rules.
